How to determine your face shape
Stand in front of the mirror and carefully examine the proportions of your face. The basic shapes are:
- Oval – length is about 1.5 times greater than width, gently rounded features
- Round – length and width are about the same, full cheeks
- Square – prominent jaw, straight forehead line
- Rectangular – long face, straight sides
- Heart – wider forehead, narrow chin
Haircuts for oval face
Congratulations – oval face is the most versatile and it suits practically every cut. You can experiment with an undercut, a pompadour, or a classic crew cut. Avoid only excessively long hair falling in the face, which can distort the natural proportions.
Haircuts for round faces
The aim is to optically lengthen the face. Cuts with volume on top and short sides are ideal - such as a quiff, pompadour or high fade. Avoid buzz cuts that are too short, which accentuate roundness.
Haircuts for square faces
A square face with a prominent jaw has a masculine appearance. Choose haircuts that soften sharp lines - textured crop, longer fringe or side part. You can wear very short haircuts without worry.
Haircuts for a rectangular face
A long face needs to be optically shortened. A cut with volume on the sides and shorter on top will help. A classic taper or medium length with texture is ideal. Avoid high pompadours.
Haircuts for a heart-shaped face
A heart-shaped face is balanced by a cut with volume at the temples. A side part, textured fringe or medium length with natural styling works great.
