Movember is a worldwide campaign when men in November they grow a mustache to raise awareness of men's health – especially prostate and testicular cancer. It's an opportunity to do something good and try a new look at the same time.

What is Movember

Movember (Mo + November) started in Australia in 2003. The rules are simple: start on November 1st with a clean-shaven face and grow only a mustache (no beard) for a whole month. The goal is to spark conversations about men's health and raise money for research.

How to get started

  1. 31. October get a clean shave
  2. 1. november it starts to grow – do not shave the upper lip
  3. All month maintain only a mustache – no beard, sideburns, goatee
  4. At the end of the month share the result and talk about men’s health

The first weeks of growth

Be patient – the first 2 weeks are the hardest. The mustache may appear sparse and uneven. This is normal. Resist the temptation to shave it off. After 2-3 weeks it will start to take shape.

Keep area clean – shave cheeks, chin and neck but leave upper lip intact.

Moustache styles for Movember

Chevron: Classic full moustache, easiest to grow. Handlebar: Upturned ends, requires wax. Pencil: Thin line, requires trimming. Walrus: Massive lip, for advanced. Natural: Just let it grow.

Care during growth

Washing: Wash the mustache with normal hygiene, possibly with a special beard shampoo. Hydration: Beard oil prevents itching and softens the hairs. Trimming: Keep the line above the lip so that it does not interfere with eating.

Social aspect

Movember is not only about the mustache – it is an opportunity to talk about health. Share your progress on social media, explain why, encourage other men to get screened. Every conversation can save a life.

After Movember

At the end of November, you have a choice: keep a mustache (you may have discovered a new style) or go back to normal. Either way, you've done something meaningful and perhaps inspired others.

Corporate involvement

Movember is great for corporate teams. Contests for the best mustache, joint photoshoots, corporate contributions to charity – all build a team and support a good cause.
