What is aftershave and why use it
Aftershave is a product applied to the skin after shaving. Its main functions are:
- Disinfection – prevents infection of small cuts
- Soothing – reduces irritation and redness
- Hydration – restores skin moisture
- Fragrance – pleasant feeling of freshness
- Shrinking pores – prevention of ingrown hairs
Types of aftershave
Aftershave splash (water after shaving)
A classic variant with a higher alcohol content. Disinfects and tightens pores, but can be drying. Suitable for oily skin and hot days.
Aftershave balm
Cream consistency without alcohol or with minimal content. Hydrates and soothes. Ideal for dry and sensitive skin.
Aftershave gel
Light gel texture, quickly absorbed. A compromise between splash and balm. Suitable for normal to mixed skin.
Aftershave lotion
Lighter than balm, more fluid consistency. Contains moisturizing and disinfecting ingredients. A universal choice.
How to choose the right aftershave
When choosing, consider:
- Skin type – dry skin = balm, oily = splash
- Sensitivity – sensitive skin = alcohol-free, with aloe
- Fragrance – choose the one that matches your perfume or cologne
- Composition – prefer natural ingredients
How to apply aftershave correctly
Step 1: After shaving, rinse face with cold water to close pores.
Step 2: Dry gently with a towel – don’t press, rather pat.
Step 3: Apply a small amount of aftershave to palms.
Step 4: Rub gently into the skin - don't massage too vigorously.
Step 5: Let it absorb before applying other products.
