Fringe up, sometimes also called „brushed up“ or „headband up“, is a dynamic cut that adds height and energy to the face. The hair in the front part is styled upwards and backwards, which creates an effective volume and a modern look.

Characteristics of the fringe up cut

The basis is a longer upper part (5-10 cm), while the sides are shorter – most often fade or taper. The key is that the front hair (fringe/headband) points upwards and slightly back, not towards the forehead. The result is a vertical line that optically lengthens the face.

Who suits

Fringe up is a universal cut, but it is especially suitable for men with a round or wide face – the vertical line optically slims. It is also suitable for men with a lower forehead who lack height in the upper part of the face. On the contrary, very long faces could be stretched even more by this cut.

The cut requires hair with sufficient density and texture. Very fine or thin hair may not hold the desired shape.

How to style the cut

To achieve the „up“ effect, you need the right products and technique. Matting paste or clay provide shine-free hold. For extra volume, first use a volumizing powder on the roots.

Styling procedure:

  1. Dry the hair with a hair dryer upwards from the roots
  2. Apply a small amount of product to the fingers
  3. Rub from the roots upwards
  4. Shape the front part with the fingers in the desired direction
  5. For extra fixation, finish with hairspray

Variations of the cut

Textured fringe up – adds more tousledness and naturalness. Fringe up with hard part sharp line on the side gives a more formal look. Messy fringe up – a deliberately sloppy style for casual occasions.

Maintenance

The cut requires a visit to the barbershop every 3-4 weeks to maintain the proportions. Daily styling takes 5-10 minutes. Wash your hair every other day to maintain its natural texture for better styling.
