Ancient origins

The first records of barbers come from ancient Egypt, where shaving the head and face was associated with hygiene and religion. In ancient Greece and Rome, barbering became a social institution – barbershops were a place of debate and meeting.

The Romans called barbers „tonsores“, and their shops „tonstrinae“ were among the most visited places in the city.

The Middle Ages: Barbers as surgeons

In medieval Europe, barbers performed not only cutting and shaving, but also surgical procedures – they cut veins, pulled teeth and treated wounds. This connection lasted for centuries and gave rise to the term „barber-surgeon“.

With the advent of home razors and unisex salons in the 1960s and 1970s, traditional barbershops all but disappeared. Men began to prefer fast and cheap services.

At the turn of the millennium, however, a return to traditional values ​​began. Men have rediscovered the joy of quality grooming and barbershops are experiencing a renaissance.

Modern barbershop

Today's barbershops combine tradition with modern comfort. They offer classic services such as hot towel shaves, but also modern haircuts and styling products. They have become a place where men can enjoy a moment for themselves in a masculine environment.
