Spiky hair, „ježek“ in Czech, is a timeless cut that works for men of all ages. From teenagers to men in years – properly executed spikes add energy, youthfulness and dynamism to every look.

Evolution of spiky hair

Hedgehog has undergone a significant transformation since the 90s. While at the time gels dominated stiff, sharply spiky hair, today's version is softer and more natural. Modern spiky hair has texture, movement and doesn't feel like a gel helmet.

Types of spiky cuts

Classic spiky – short hair all over the head styled up. Spiky fringe – spikes only in the front, the rest smooth. Textured spiky – less defined tips, more natural movement. Spiky fade – combination with a fade transition on the sides for a modern twist.

Who suits the hedgehog

Spiky hair is universal, but it stands out best on men with a oblong or rectangular face. For round faces, choose higher points on the crown – optically lengthens the face. For narrow faces, on the contrary, lower, wider styling.

Hair type: Straight to slightly wavy hair of medium density is ideal. Fine hair requires more product, thick, on the other hand, texturization.

Spiky hair according to age

Teenagers and 20s: They can afford more expressive, higher spikes and experimentation. 30s-40s: Subtle version, textured spikes with fade – professional but still modern. 50+: Fine spikes add vitality, avoid too sharp look.

Styling step by step

  1. Wash and towel-dry damp hair
  2. Apply volumizing mousse or pre-styler
  3. Blow dry upwards from the roots
  4. On dry hair, apply matting paste or clay
  5. Shape spikes with your fingers –work in sections
  6. For extra hold, gently fix with spray

Products for spiky hair

For fine hold: Matting paste, texturizing spray. For medium hold: Clay, fiber. For strong tribute: Pomade, wax. Avoid gel – creates a hard, unnatural look.

Maintenance

The haircut requires a refresh every 3-4 weeks. Daily styling takes 5-10 minutes. Wash your hair every other day – too clean hair holds its shape harder, too greasy looks flat.
